‘One Sky’ is a romantic and nostalgic work, reflecting on isolation and feeling lost in a strange time, clinging to familiar and comforting sounds in shifting daydreams of far away place and people.
The piece is predominantly slow, but with a brief fast rhythmic section and a short cadenza. There is no altissimo.

Written during the global pandemic of 2020 as a commission from Australian Saxophonist Shaniqa Lin, to fit within a project of Latin-American inspired music.
The piece spans from Australia to South America - drawing upon influences from Colombian & Argentinian music (reflecting a new musical connection made at the time), and also specific memories of music-making in Australia.
It loosely ruminates on our individual place in the world, how unique it is to globally experience something together under one sky, and how connecting and sharing that experience can bring a more positive outlook.
